6th Annual Diamond Classic Sturgeon Derby

Diamond Classic Derby entry fee is $25. 100% of the entry fees are paid in cash prizes (1st place through 7th place). Additional prizes awarded at the Pre-Derby Seminar (see details below) and at Weigh-In are courtesy of our sponsors. We have 10
sponsor Captains who will each be donating trips for the raffle.

All entries/registrations must be submitted in person and paid in cash at one of the two official locations: Martinez Bait & Tackle (Deadline is 4:00 pm January 27, 2011) and at Castro Valley Sportsmen Center (Deadline is 5:00 pm January 25, 2011).

Special Kids Division (under 16) – Free Entry!

The goal of the Kids Division is to teach children that fishing can be fun and that it is also fun and good to release fish. Kids entry is FREE and all they have to do to be entered into the Kid’s Division drawing is to catch and release any fish (any species, any size). We will draw names from a hat full of all the kids’ names that released a fish for the prizes.

With the help from sponsors (including Coastside Fishing Club) there will be enough prizes so that every kid goes home with something! Last year we had 56 kids entered and the goal this year is to have 80 kids registered.

Pre-Derby Seminar – Free Entry!

Friday, January 27, 2012 – 6:00 – 9:00 pm Due to overwhelming demand, the Pre-Derby Seminar will be limited to the first 300 entrants. The top 8 Sturgeon Pro’s will lead a panel revealing their secrets to finding and landing Sturgeon, including Q&A from the audience. The evening will include lots of great raffle prizes and beverages (for sale) as well as a pre-seminar buffet dinner ($10). 536 Main Street (next to La Tapatia Restaurant) in Martinez, CA. Any members having trouble logging in?

After the software updates done Aug 25th we found that a small but significant number of people had troubles logging in to the forums. The solution for 98% of these folks was to clear their browser cookies. This can be done by going to your browser’s menu and looking for a choice similar to “tools”. There you should find the way to clear your browser cookies and let your browser learn the new website and make a new cookie. For anyone still having trouble logging on after clearing cookies, please contact the help desk at coastsidehelper@yahoo.com.

We are back online with the new look of VB4!

We made the long overdue jump from 3.7 to 4.1 and discovered a few things that you only find out about when you jump. We are aware of some minor bugs but they can be dealt with with the site back up. It took awhile to make jump repairs and I would like to thank Brent and his team at KillerSurf.net for the allnighter and pushing through to fix the big bugs.

The Classifieds will be back as soon as possible. They are being upgraded to the newest version of that software.

VB has options called plug-ins. For example our old Spell Check plug-in isn’t compatible with the VB4 software. Same with some other things you may or may not notice, Ads, Album features, these are being worked on in the background so please hold off reporting about these bugs for a few days.

On the other hand, if you find something like a broken link, do report it to me at coastsidehelper@yahoo.com. I will track bugs and relay them to Brent. We will work on finding ways to find other alternates for the missing plugins that are not supported. But really it’s just that they are now alternates vs. missing items.. lots of changes from 2008!

Go for it! Enjoy the new site. Please email comments and bugs to me at the above address and will tweak things as we go forward. The meat and potatoes portion of the website upgrade is done. Now we’re down to the fine tuning.

Site Maintenance Weds Night 8/24

We’re nearing the final warning call. The site will be going down Wednesday late evening, for software updates. While the forums will likely have a new look, this procedure is to get our website software up to the current revisions as we are a bit behind. The classifieds are to be updated and hopefully no ads lost. THE REALITY IS when you do long overdue updates, problems can occur. When we updated the frontend, which is the front page and associated pages, a few months ago, a few bugs were uncovered that we quickly fixed. The version of classifieds being updated is old so make a copy of your ads and pictures if need be to re-enter into the updated classifieds. What I’m saying is we trust things will go smoothly but know how surprises can come up.

Make a copy of any pictures etc. that you have on the site but don’t have a personal copy.

Again we’re updating an old version of VBulletin to the latest version so hope for smooth but prepare for lumpy. Worst case is the site will come back up with some bugs that need fixing. The sad thing is we can’t predict what will happen until we push the upgrade button. Other design changes will follow as we move forward but Wednesday night is a software upgrade only.
